Diamond Di Triano (Forest Wildcat ex Hot Princess) a US$75,000 purchase by Vin Cox Bloodstock at the Keeneland 2004 September Yearling Sale, stayed on strongly in testing conditions to record her first win at Nottingham, England on Sunday 20th May.

The 11th foal of Hot Princess, a Group 3 winner, Diamond Di Triano, kept up the family winning trend by powering her way through the soft ground to lead inside the final 100 yards.

Down The Wicket to Go for Gold
4 April 2006
Black Opal winner Down The Wicket has the Group One $3million STC Golden Slipper Stakes firmly in his sights after drawing perfectly in barrier six on Tuesday afternoon.
We’re under no illusions, the Golden Slipper is an incredibly hard race to win and just to get into the final field is a huge thrill for all the owners including several that will be coming down from Hong Kong.
Hundreds of horses are set for this race each year, but there is a gulf of difference between almost getting there and actually lining up for a start.
In this regard our trainer Gary Portelli has done an outstanding job with Down The Wicket, who is coming into this race in peak condition and winning form.
With prizemoney in the bank of $155,130, Down The Wicket is already operating well and truly in the black having been purchased for just $38,000 from the 2005 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
He is the cheapest runner in the field, proving you don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy the excitement of having a runner in Australia’s greatest juvenile event.
A keen eye for a horse and astute management can prove just as effective as tossing around vast sums of money in the quest for finding and developing superior racehorses.
The Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale (April 18, 19 & 20) is the next major event on the bloodstock calendar and this smorgasbord of bluebloods offers a dizzying array of opportunity.
The depth of quality is what sets this sale apart from its rivals and for fillies with residual value and colts with genuine sire potential it is one sale that you simply can’t go past.
We’ve already done plenty of homework on the pedigrees and been out inspecting in the Hunter Valley, so for advice on any of the yearlings or just an independent opinion, don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Mentality Highlights US Bred Mares
3 April 2006
A sparkling win by promising two-year old Mentality in the Listed AJC T.L. Baillieu Handicap at Warwick Farm on Sunday provided the perfect result for his dam Synaesthesia (USA), a $US77,000 purchase from the 2001 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
Synaesthesia (USA) was one of three mares purchased from that sale by Byron Rogers on behalf of Arrowfield Stud.
“We spent US$330,000 for three in-foal mares, foaled the mares down and sent the mares to Australia and put the foals through the November Sales where they bought US$300,000 in total, so the mares didn't owe an awful lot when they arrived at Arrowfield,” said Rogers.
Mentality made $100,000 at the 2004 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and looks to have an outstanding future judging by the ease of his first stakes win.
The annual Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale is the largest of its type in the world offering a diversity of bloodlines and depth of quality that cannot be matched in Australia.
Last year’s catalogue featured 4,477 horses including an amazing 2,349 broodmares representing bloodlines from every corner of the globe.
“Given the saturation of Danzig blood in this part of the world it makes sense for astute breeders to cast their eye further afield in search of quality mares to match with the many outstanding sire sons of Danehill now at stud in Australia,” said Vin Cox, Australasian Representative, Keenaland.
Australian breeding stock sales conducted over the next few months will undoubtedly take centre stage on the local front, but Keeneland in November is certainly something that forward thinking breeders should keep in the back of their minds.
