FILLES A GOOD BUY AT KEENELAND SEPTEMBER
The thoroughbred has become an international commodity. Starting on 11th September, Keeneland will be offering its biggest catalogue of premier yearlings, including 2,457 fillies.
With the buoyancy of our local market, good value and opportunities for return are getting harder to find. Keeneland September offers local breeders who are prepared to consider a broader picture, an opportunity to select from a diverse selection of well credentialed and pedigreed fillies.
There are numerous advantages in buying in the Northern Hemisphere, one being the extensive selection of stallions, including many well-known and proven turf sires, whose progeny can often by purchased far more easily in North America where the primary focus is on dirt track racing.
Vin Cox Bloodstock purchased 5 yearling fillies last year. All fillies were bought with commerciability, type and price in mind. One filly is already stakes placed, the others we are hoping to follow suit. View the fillies' details and pedigrees
Keeneland offering Hong Kong buyers 2,704 colts
The Keeneland September yearling sale runs from the 11th -25th September. Featuring 5,161 lots, this sale offers something for everyone particularly buyers from Hong Kong
This year 2,704 colts are featured from a multitude of superstar international stallions. The extensive sire index includes many highly desirable turf stallions that are proving popular in Australiasia both in the sales ring and on the track.
Yearlings by renowned turf sires are frequently undervalued on the North American market and can represent outstanding value for the discerning investor. The advantage for these perceptive buyers is that North American buyers have a distinct preference for dirt stallions, often leaving many yearlings by well known turf producers untouched.
Stallions of note featured in this year's catalogue are:
| Royal Academy | Galileo |
| Elusive Quality | Hennessy |
| Tale of the Cat | Giant's Causeway |
| Johannesburg | Singspiel |
| Anabaa | More Than Ready |
| Stravinsky | Red Ransom |
| Deputy Minister | Maria's Mon |
Last year there were a number of yearlings that Vin Cox Bloodstock earmarked as successful candidates for the Hong Kong market. Below we have outlined their pedigrees and the money they were sold for. It is interesting to notice that the pedigrees are extremely strong, they were all athletic in build and were easily accessible on price.

'Champion' producing Keeneland November
5 July 2006
Wednesday produced a fantastic effort by maidener STREETOFCHAMPIONS, when he won on debut at Salisbury in England. Beating a very useful field, Streetofchampions showed good early speed getting the front early and then kicking on to win with plenty of fuel left in the tank. So good was his run that he is tipped to be running at Listed level next and is expected to be able to hold his own at Stakes level. This is the first colt from the impeccably bred Becky’s Ransom, a half sister to More Than Ready and a USD$150,000 purchase by Vin Cox Bloodstock at the Keeneland November Sale 2005. Becky’s Ransom was in foal to Rahy at the time and has now foaled down a colt in the States. Owned in Australia Becky’s Ransom will be brought out for the current breeding season. With the current internationalisation of pedigrees there are many options for the breeder with a broader view. Good pedigrees are good the world over, however there is much value to be gained from selecting mares in larger ‘pools’ such as the November Breeding Stock Sale. This is just one example of this internationalism. Streetofchampions, by Street Cry, currently shuttling to Darley Australia, running in England. Out of half sister to More Than Ready, currently shuttling to Vinery Australia and both mare and colt bought at Keeneland November and September respectively. Plane ticket anyone??
Vin Cox Bloodstock Major Player at 2006 MM National Sale
23 June 2006
The Magic Millions National Sale concluded after 11 long and weary days of selling with record turnover of $71.4 million highlighted by record figures in each category - broodmares, weanlings and yearlings.
Attending the Magic Millions Sale in June is now every bit as important as going in January and while there is still some fine tuning that could make the sale even better, it has undoubtedly taken over as the number one breeding stock sale in the Southern Hemisphere as a result of aggressive marketing and the support of vendors and buyers. Full report and purchase on the Sales page.
Diamond de Triano Double Up
7 June 2006
Diamond de Triano has made it 2 for 2 in nine furlong (mile-and-a-quarter) Class 5 fillies handicap at Carlise, England yesterday (June 5).
Trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam and a Vin Cox Bloodstock purchase at Keeneland September in 2004, this gutsy little filly is showing great promise now having 5 starts for 2 wins and 1 second.
There were questions whether the Forest Wildcat filly would cope with the quick conditions, the track was rated good-firm, but she battled on to score a win by a head.
Ridden by claimer Daniel Tudhope, she was travelling on the speed and at the front. As they swung around the top bend Diamond came to the fore to lead and never relinquished her position, despite tiring in the final strides.
Chapple-Hyam said: “I am very pleased to get another win into her. She is improving and did her job very well again. She handled the fast ground and while she lugged a little bit to the left in the closing stages, I think that was more green-ness than anything else.
